Difference between Autonomous Colleges and Non-autonomous colleges

Autonomous colleges are the colleges which are under the University but still very much different from other colleges strictly under the university. They have the minimum interference from the university. Still, matters like fees, seats,etc. are entirely decided by the university not the colleges.

Following differences can be made out:
1. Autonomous colleges have their own syllabus, Non autonomous colleges follow same syllabus in strict accordance with university.
2.Examination papers are set by the faculty in autonomous colleges, while paper is set by university committee for other colleges.
3.Autonomous colleges provide with CGPAs or grades while the others get the marks.
4.Schedule is different for different autonomous colleges while same for each of the university colleges.
5.Degree is jointly awarded by university and the colleges in autonomous cases.
6.Normally, Autonomous students get more of the holidays in comparison with non autonomous colleges, thus providing them with ample time to do things apart from the studies such as internships.
7.Non Autonomous colleges in Karnataka are said to  have some of the craziest of the subjects, as the subjects are decided by the old fashioned university committee.
8.It is said that in autonomous colleges, if you are noted by the faculties, then your fate will be in the their hands.

Hence, it can be easily concluded that the autonomous colleges have a clear lead upon non autonomous colleges. But still, this shouldn't be made a base for selection of colleges as you will find that colleges which don't even figure in top 20 colleges list in Karnataka  have got autonomous status.

HOW TO DECIDE YOUR COLLEGE?

BIG QUESTION: BRANCH OR COLLEGE?
Now that you have got your ranks, first of all you have to decide whether you will prefer branch or the college.
This question has been raised by the students for long and will be continued in future.
MY SUGGESTION: I will say if you should prefer branch if you have any particular interests in any field.
Also, if you have plans for getting a job after graduation you must prefer branch.
But if you will be definitely going for an M.B.A. after the college, you may prefer college but don't settle for very low branches.

Make a priority list.

How to decide?
So, you have your priority list. Now do some googling and find various articles at different forums about your colleges.
Contact seniors at these forums and take their opinions. I will be giving you addresses of some of these forums at the end of this article.
Make some social contacts on facebook or any other social sites on different pages of these colleges.
Contact if any of your relatives or friends studies in some engineering college at Bangalore.
Advices of these people are important but also remember,
They may mislead you, as students of lower ranked colleges tie up with management to bring admissions for them in turn of monetary benefits.

When you come for Counselling:
Schedule you journey three days in advance of the counselling dates and use this time to visit the college personally.
Talk with the faculties and definitely talk with students studying. This is the most important step.
So, finalise your priority list well in advance before going to counselling.

Day of Counselling:
Go to the counselling venue at the time of an earlier session so that you don't get late.
Don't pay heed to any of the gossips going at the counselling venues.
Stick to your priority list.
It has been observed that students make wrong decisions at the college centre.

Get Top 20 college ranking for comedk

General advise to comedk candidates:

1. Attend 2nd counselling positively as high rank slide occurs.

2. If you don't have any choice about branch, I suggest you to take Computer Science branch.
  CSE/ISE branch students of top 20 colleges usually don't face problems for placement.

3. Information Science branch is almost similar to Computer Science branch. You will only find a change in two or three subjects.

4. ECE is also one of the top branches in Bangalore, but usually half of the students end up in IT companies.
  But still you must consider this branch if you have interests in electronics.

5. Go to the counselling venue at the time of a session before so that you don't get late.

6. Don’t pay heed to any of the gossips going at the counselling venues.

7. Stick to your priority list.

8. It has been observed that students make wrong decisions at the college centre.

9. Counselling procedure is very smooth. Don't forget to take the challan of bank D.D. with you or you may have to go out for making an affidavit,
Which may result you in losing your session and it may lead you to lower colleges.

10. Keep all the Xerox documents and ensure that all the documents are correct in order.

11. Stay Calm. Be relaxed.
